The crisp fall air is putting us in the mood for something with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Time to bust out the scarf and the kombucha cocktail shaker!
Mix and Mingle:
Kombucha is a great alternative to the standard drink mixer. Lower sugar than soda and juice, plus a sweet-tart tang and beneficial bacteria means your drink has a healthy edge. There’s also been some unofficial rumors going around that kombucha helps ease (and maybe even prevent!) hangovers… ya know, Detox while you Retox! (But please, drink responsibly.)
Here are three recipes for delicious fall drinks to try with Humm. Invite some friends over and have an early fall kombucha cocktail hour! AND, you can whip up easy pumpkin muffins from the leftover puree in the Chai Pumpkin Punch. your friends will surely beat a fallen leaf path to your door!☺
(makes a pitcher of kombucha cocktails)
1 cup sliced Honeycrisp apples
1 navel orange, sliced
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 bottle (14 oz) Apple Sass Humm Kombucha
1 bottle (14 oz) Lemon Ginger Humm Kombucha
1 22 oz bottle hard cider, such as Atlas Cider
1/4 cup apple brandy
Sliced Honeycrisp apples (for garnish, optional)
In a pitcher, combine the apples with the sliced orange, lemon juice, Humm Apple Sass Kombucha, Humm Lemon Ginger Kombucha and apple brandy. Add the hard cider and gently stir. Pour over ice and serve, garnished with an apple slice if desired.
(makes 4 kombucha cocktails)
1 bottle (14 oz) Pomegranate Lemonade Humm Kombucha
1 cup apple juice
Juice of 1 lime
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, roughly chopped, plus 4 long sprigs for garnishing
4 oz gin, such as Crater Lake Gin
In a cocktail shaker or glass jar, add a tablespoon of fresh rosemary, a splash of gin, and 2 tablespoons crushed ice. Muddle until the rosemary is well crushed (see photo below), strain the liquid well and set aside. Combine the Pomegranate Lemonade Humm Kombucha, apple juice, lime juice, 4 ounces of gin in a pitcher, add the rosemary liquid. Add the rosemary garnish to each glass. Add a few small ice cubes to each glass, pour the cocktail over ice and serve.
Note: to make the rosemary sprig bend to your will, carefully bend it (somewhat breaking the stem, but not all the way) so that it arches around the glass. Tuck into each glass before adding the ice (so they stay put) and then pour the drink on top.
Chai Pumpkin Punch
(makes just enough for 1 large kombucha cocktail or two small-ish drinks)
1 ounce pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon honey
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
2 ounces bourbon
1/8 teaspoon ground fresh ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 ounces Chai Humm Kombucha
Cinnamon sticks (optional)
Ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice (optional)
In a cocktail shaker, add all the ingredients except the Chai Humm Kombucha. Add 5-6 ice cubes and shake well. Strain and pour over a glass with ice. Stir in the Chai Humm Kombucha. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a few dashes of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
