Spotlight: Functional medicine expert, Dr. Will Cole
Hey there, blog reader!
Today we have a special guest star, the inimitable Dr. Will Cole. He’s a big deal expert in the field of functional medicine, so we decided to ask him a few questions in between giggling and blushing like we were talking to a famous Rockstar. Here’s the interview!
1. Is Humm Zero keto friendly?
Humm Zero is a delicious lower clean-carb option (less than 1 net carb) that can fit into your daily macronutrient requirements on a keto diet. It’s got less than one net carb!
2. What’s your take on kombucha in general?
Kombucha is amazing for gut health and a great tasting fizzy alternative to soda. Since it is fermented it contains a lot of beneficial bacteria for your microbiome. I always encourage my patients to incorporate more fermented foods into their diets as much as possible, including kombucha.
3. Why is sugar bad? You can tell us, we can handle it.
When you eat sugar, your body breaks it down into glucose to be used as fuel. However, eating too much sugar can result in chronically high blood sugar since your body can't utilize that much fuel. Any sugar the body can’t burn gets stored as fat around your liver, stomach, and in circulating fat (known as triglycerides). On top of all that, the by-products of glucose metabolism are inflammatory to the body, especially when there is an excess of glucose.
4. What’s up with the whole30 diet?
Many people have underlying food sensitivities that can contribute to their ongoing symptoms. Whole30 is a great way to reset your health and your diet and discover what foods work best for you and what foods are less than optimal once you start reintroducing foods into your diet.
